UBC selects Workday as its core enterprise system

UBC selects Workday as its core enterprise system

January 24, 2018

On behalf of Professor Santa J. Ono, President and Vice-Chancellor,

In the past 12-24 months, the university has initiated major renewal projects across Student Administration, Human Resources and Finance (including Procurement Modernization). These projects have now been aligned under one Integrated Renewal Program. An essential undertaking of the program during this period has been to identify suitable enterprise software to assist in enabling its vision:

‘The way we support learning and research, and how we work at UBC will be transformed, creating a cohesive, integrated, and enriched experience for students, staff, and faculty.’

The Integrated Renewal Program team and I are pleased to announce that Workday has been selected as the core enterprise system - to replace UBC's Student Information System (SIS), Human Resource Management System (HRMS), and Financial Management System (FMS).

The decision to choose Workday came after extensive due diligence and input from the UBC community, including demonstration events on both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

We are excited to be implementing Workday as the core enterprise system for UBC. Workday already provides enterprise cloud applications for some of the world's largest companies, educational institutions, and government agencies.

Integrated Renewal Program Leadership and Executive Sponsors

In addition to announcing the decision to use Workday, we would like to take this opportunity to provide an update on the Integrated Renewal Program itself.

In his role as Interim Vice President, Finance and Operations, Peter Smailes has become the lead Executive Sponsor for the program. We also look forward to the arrival of our new Vice President, Human Resources, Barbara Meens Thistle, who will join as an Executive Sponsor.

To further support the Integrated Renewal Program, Dr. Kate Ross, Associate Vice-President, Enrolment Services & Registrar, has been appointed as Lead Program Sponsor (effective immediately). Dr. Ross has been closely involved in the renewal project since its inception. This new dimension to her role will further her ongoing leadership in this transformative program.

Looking ahead

In the coming weeks, more details will be provided about the program timeline, launch, and how this initiative aligns with UBC’s strategic plan. The Integrated Renewal Program team is committed to keeping you informed throughout the process, and will provide numerous ways to get involved. Thank you for your support of this tremendously important initiative.
