A Look Back at 2017 Accomplishments

As the year comes to a close, let’s take a look back on the work completed in 2017. Following an extensive collaborative solution process with Workday and student leaders and administrators across the institution, the Student workstream selected Workday in July to replace UBC’s Student Information System (SIS).

The HR and Finance workstreams spent the majority of the year gathering business requirements, completing fit-gap analysis, hosting a Workday demo week to understand the potential for Workday to replace UBC’s PeopleSoft FMS and HRMS.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in UBC’s Workday demonstrations at UBC Okanagan (Tuesday, November 7) and UBC Vancouver (Wednesday, November 8).

With over 600 registrants for the live demonstrations and web stream, it’s safe to say the events were a success!

At the demonstrations, Workday showcased its single system offering for Student, Human Resources (HR) and Finance – showing how its cloud-based application and real-time capabilities could be the solution to retiring UBC’s legacy applications in favour of an integrated solution.

In early November, UBC hosted a major Workday demonstration and live streaming event in Vancouver and the Okanagan. Over 700 senior academic and administrative leaders, faculty and staff participated in the university's evaluation of Workday as a potential core enterprise platform across Student, Human Resources and Finance.

UBC is entering a period of tremendous opportunity to modernize our approaches and enabling technologies to improve how we work together as a community of faculty, staff and students. You may be aware that UBC's renewal programs for Student (SASI), HR and Finance have recently been brought together as one integrated program with multiple project streams. Many of you have participated in earlier stages of work in one or more of these program streams to explore ways to improve our users' experience, simplify processes and evaluate new software solutions.

 

SASI and HR/FIN Renewal Programs Governance Structures Integrated

As planning proceeded for the replacement of the Student, HR, and Finance systems, it became apparent that there was significant interdependencies between the various projects and a need for alignment in terms of governance and decision-making, risk management, project planning, change management, benefits realization, and implementation timelines to name a few. As a result, the Student Academic Systems Initiative (SASI), HR Finance Renewal Program (HR/FIN), and Procurement Modernization governance structures were integrated.
