Workplace Learning Ecosystem (WPL)

Workplace Learning Ecosystem (WPL)

April 24, 2020

The Workplace Learning Ecosystem (WPL) is a centralized, searchable catalogue of workplace learning and training offered to UBC employees. The platform is intended to serve UBC employees and support required training, wellbeing, and professional development that is offered internally at UBC. Through wpl.ubc.ca, you can:

  • Discover new workplace learning opportunities available to UBC
  • Register for internal workshops and courses offered by units across campus
  • Learn in-person, online, or using a blend of both
  • Track completed training records and any expiry date
  • Assign required training to employees

Since its soft launch on April 15, 2020, the WPL has received positive engagement from employees, with enrolments occurring every five minutes in various courses, for a total of 1,556 enrolments in its first week and a 80.3% course completion rate for general required courses. This is the first time UBC has had access to accurate and reliable Workplace Learning (required training, wellbeing and professional development courses) data in real time. Feedback also indicates that the course catalogue is easy to use and navigate, aiding in the high participation rate in the soft launch.

This new centralized system will aid the professional development process for UBC employees, by tracking and presenting new opportunities for learning using an online forum. This new ecosystem will continue to grow, including more courses and integration with Workday in the coming months.
