Update July 5 - Issues affecting Section Capacity Display on the Find Course Sections Report

July 4, 2024

July 5 – Fix has been implemented to replace the reserved capacity and unreserved capacity fields in the Course Sections Report.

The section capacity display for both reserved and unreserved capacity on the Find Course Sections report displays incorrect values in some cases.

What is the Issue?

Reserved capacity will continue to display as reserved even after the release date on the Find Course Sections Report. If course opening notifications are sent to students on the waitlist for a course section, the seat will appear as available on the Find Course Section Report until the student has registered for the course.

This number is inaccurate and does not match with the Course Section capacity page, which contains up to date capacity information.

Who is Impacted?

Students using the Find Course Sections report will see information that does not match the accurate data on the Course Section page.

Staff advising students who will need to explain why there is a discrepancy between the numbers.

What is the impact?

For Waitlist Opening notifications – students will see available seats on the report but no such seats are available, nor will they appear on the Course Section page.

For released reserve capacity – students will see that there is reserved capacity on the report, but the seats are actually available as unreserved capacity.

What is the status?

July 5 Update – A fix has been implemented. The reserved capacity and unreserved capacity fields in the Find Course Sections Report have now been replaced with:

  • Enrolled/Capacity
  • Waitlisted/Waitlist Capacity (will only display if there is waitlist capacity for the course)
  • If the course has reserved capacity, a note will appear but without specific numbers

Teams continue to work on a permanent solution with Workday. Updates will be posted here as available.

Additional Details

Workaround - refer students to the “Course Section” page for most up to date information for reserved/unreserved capacity.
