TouchNet Displaying Student Legal Names Instead of Preferred Names

May 22, 2024

TouchNet (Payment platform) is displaying legal student names instead of preferred names.

What is the Issue?

UBC policy is to use a student's preferred name except where a legal name is required. TouchNet is incorrectly displaying legal names data from Workday.

Who is Impacted?

All students making payments to the university, people authorized by students for payments, staff using TouchNet data.

What is the impact?

Students see their legal names displayed instead of preferred names displayed in TouchNet. If students authorize individuals to make payments on their behalf in TouchNet, those individuals will see the students’ legal names.

What is the status?

Solution options have been reviewed with the vendor (TouchNet). The issue will be resolved in October 2024 when TouchNet releases an application update.
