Registration for the Winter 2024 Session begins June 4 on Workday Student
May 27, 2024Starting with Graduate Students on June 4, registration for the Winter 2024 Session will begin and, for the first time, UBC students will register using Workday Student, our renewed student information system.
How will students know when to register?
Students will be notified of their registration by email one to two weeks ahead of their registration date. Registration emails will contain links to tutorials showing students how to create their saved schedules and how to register for their courses.
Graduate and Year 4 students will receive an email notifying them of their registration appointment one week before they register. This is to allow for the completion of sessional evaluations in Workday. Year 1, 2, and 3 students will get their email 2 weeks before their registration date.
Note: Summer registration continues in SSC

Registration times
Registration will start at 9:00 am and continue until around 2:00 pm, with time slots opening every 15 minutes with no breaks. Priority registration rules from prior years are being maintained as status quo.
Graduate students
Registration for Graduate students will begin on June 4. They should follow the advice provided by their graduate program office or supervisor regarding course choice and registration procedures where applicable.
Undergraduate students
Registration will be taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with the exception of Year 3s who will register on a Tuesday and Thursday as a result of Canada Day. Tuesdays and Fridays will be triage days to troubleshoot issues that might arise.
Triage week
Accounting for the introduction of a new system, there will be a triage week, from June 17-21. This is in support of troubleshooting and communication development, if required, based on the outcomes and learning from the preceding weeks.
Support for student-facing staff during registration
During the peak registration period, IRP Student will be providing live system advisory and troubleshooting support to the units involved in supporting students with course registration. From June 3 until July 19, 2024, IRP Student Solution team members with Workday Student functional expertise will be available Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm to respond to time-sensitive registration inquiries from the staff and faculty supporting registration.
This “live” support during peak registration activity will be open to a subset of staff and faculty as identified by the Primary Transition Leads (or designates) from faculties and central units. Details on how to access the live registration support are being finalized. The support framework will be reviewed during Registration Triage Week (June 17-21) for any required changes or shifts in approach.
